College pitcher almost dies: 19-year-old almost killed in hot dog contest

College pitcher almost dies: 19-year-old almost killed in hot dog contest, A college pitcher almost dies while competing in a hot dog contest. On July 9, FanSided.com reported that 19-year-old Brian Read entered the contest that took place during the 7th inning stretch of a summer game. The goal was to eat one hot dog with bun as fast as possible without drinking anything. Read came in last place and then he puked.

According to the report, Read still didn't feel well even after getting sick. He decided to seek medical attention the next day because he was in so much discomfort. Doctors checked him out and found a piece of hot dog lodged in his digestive track.

So the college pitcher almost dies because of a hot dog -- and the contest wasn't even a typical "eat as many hot dogs as you can in 5 minutes" type of thing. It was just one hot dog and a small piece almost cost Brian Read his life.

"The doctors there found a 1.5-inch-long piece of hot dog stuck sideways in the connection area between his esophagus and stomach, which is scary. They had no choice but to put Read under anesthesia and perform surgery," FanSided.com reported. While it doesn't sound serious, this little piece of hot dog could have caused Read some seriously problems had he not gone to the doctor.

The college pitcher almost dies story is getting a lot of attention today. It's safe to say that Read won't be entering any more hot dog eating contests anytime soon.
