N.C. deck collapse: 25 taking family picture as second story deck collapses, The N.C. deck collapse sent 25 people falling from the second story as they were posing for a family photo. According to Local Fox 9 on July 10, 2013, the N.C deck collapse happened as the family piled out onto the deck to pose for a portrait. Almost immediately they could hear the cracking of the wood as it buckled beneath them.21 folks were taken to the hospital, some of the injured were children. A 911 call came in from a young girl who said:
“Our porch at our beach house just fell thru.” The girl continued with “We were all taking a family picture and it just fell and a couple people are hurt. It just fell.”
A neighbor said he could hear the lumber snapping followed by screams. It was quite disturbing, he continued. By the time the neighbor, Ray Weir, got there the sight was terrifying and “it was lucky no one died.”
A building inspector, who inspected the N.C. deck collapse shortly after it happened said that it could have been rusty nails that were the culprits in this deck collapse. Of course the deck overloaded with 25 people and shouldering the weight of about 4,000 pounds or more might be the main reason for the deck collapse.
The 21 people treated at the hospital had injuries ranging from bruises and scrapes to broken bones. None of the injuries were considered life threatening.
