Wrong House Demolished In Fort Worth

Wrong House Demolished In Fort Worth, A wrecking crew did a great job of tearing down a home in Fort Worth, Texas last week. Of course, there was one tiny little problem: They demolished the wrong house!

David Underwood said that he drove by his 1300 square foot house this weekend only to find a pile of rubble.

The NY Daily News reports that the home had been owned by Underwood’s late grandmother. No one was living at the house at the time of its demise.

Underwood said: “We came around Silver Creek looking for the lot and my wife said, David… I think the house is gone. I was like, what? and we looked up there and sure enough, it’s gone!”

The city-hired contractor was supposed to tear down the vacant home next door but somehow got confused and ended up demolishing the wrong house.

The city’s code compliance officer wrote in a statement: “On July 12, 2013, contractors demolished the wrong property on Watercress Drive… The property to be demolished should have been 9708 Watercress Dr. The property that was demolished was a vacant structure located at 9716 Watercress Drive.”

Underwood has been told by city officials to find out how much the house was worth. The city plans to reach a settlement deal to pay back Underwood for destroying his home.

Underwood said that the house was empty except for a few books and other personal items. He said that he planned on moving into the lake house with his wife in the near future. That, of course, won’t be happening anymore.

Underwood said: “I see so much around here, people that need help and have less that, it’s an accident, let’s do what’s right and move on.”
