He was 47. Flynn died Wednesday morning at United Hospital in St. Paul, leaving behind his wife, Lysa Flynn, and three children, CBS affiliated WCCO reported.
Flynn has published 14 novels centered around the character of Mitch Rapp, a counter-terrorism expert who was chronicled so well that the federal government once probed his writing, KARE 11 reported.
After releasing his 13th book, “Kill Shot,” in 2012, the author talked with WCCO about his battle with cancer.
“I was in pain writing the last 2 books, but I didn’t know how serious it was,” he said.
Mr. Flynn was diagnosed with stage three metastatic prostate cancer in November 2010. In October 2011, the pain and fatigue had gotten so bad that he postponed publication for several months of “Kill Shot.”
The novelist told WCCO that he wound up dedicating the book to the doctors who aggressively treated his cancer.
