JAY-Z has 99 problems, but hyphenation ain't one.
The hip-hop superstar has reportedly dropped the hyphen from his name, changing his moniker from JAY-Z to, well, JAY Z (and yes, that's all caps).
Billboard editor Joe Levy first broke the story with a single tweet, sharing the news on social media while simultaneously confusing the heck out of many of Hova's fans.Breaking: Jay Z has dropped the hyphen from his name, according to his label. I am not kidding. (Wish I was.) Copy editors: take note," he posted on his Twitter page.
While there's a bit of discrepancy in the Twitterverse as to when Beyoncé's man formally dropped the hyphen (some users insist the change happened years ago), the rapper's most recent album, Magna Carta Holy Grail has Jay's name on the cover art, but there's a strategic strike through the text, so the exact styling is unclear.
Regardless of the name technicality, Jay's latest album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard charts, solidifying the rapper's lead as the solo artist with the most No. 1 albums in history. The record stats don't even take into account Blue Ivy's dad's unprecedented deal with Samsung, in which 1 million advance copies of the album were given away for free to Samsung Galaxy smartphone owners.
While the canny deal has certainly caused some controversy, the famous father is seemingly enjoying his success.
Yesterday, Jay was spotted in Canada leaving dinner with his wife and daughter, where he was snapped adorably sharing the same facial expression as his little girl.
