Laurel plane crash: 70-year-old crashes plane into mobile home community
The Laurel plane crash had American Red Cross members quickly arrive at the crash scene to provide assistance to the critically injured pilot — 70-year-old Ronald Dixon of Bowie — as well as the two families displaced from their homes.
At the time, Dixon was the only person in the single engine plane that slammed into both displaced families’ homes in the mobile home community near Laurel. Both families are receiving aid from the Red Cross, continued the report, and a mental health counselor is also on the scene to help following the shock of the sudden plane crash.
The Laurel plane crash occurred only minutes after 10 a.m. this morning, just a mile from the Maryland City airport that the plane had taken-off from. Although the exact cause of the plane crash is still unknown, it is believed by local authorities that the 70-year-old pilot was unable to gain enough altitude after lift-off.
As seen in the photo above, on-scene witnesses noticed smoke rising from crash site by Laurel, and closer inspection revealed that the plane first smashed into a tree, then careened into two homes.
While this plane crash had a more unfortunate outcome, a “miracle” plane crash in Wheeling earlier this month (where a plane landed almost flawlessly on a street, resulting in no injuries) also made headlines.
