Yankees place Derek Jeter on disabled list

Yankees place Derek Jeter on disabled list, Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a grade 1 quadriceps strain, retroactive to July 12, the Yankees announced Friday morning. Brent Lillibridge has been promoted from Triple-A to take Jeter's roster spot for the time being.

Jeter, 39, made it back from the DL for only one game before falling injured. He was 1-for-4 with an RBI in said game. Previously, Jeter missed the first three-plus months of the 2013 season as he was recovering from offseason ankle surgery, stemming from a broken ankle during the 2012 ALCS.

A healthy Jeter could really provide a boost for the Yankees' offense, as Yankees shortstops are collectively hitting a pathetic .210/.268/.279 so far this season. In 159 games last season, Jeter hit .316/.362/.429.
